Check Engine light on

The check engine light is on and a check of the code says its a vacuum problem. How can I get a diagram of the vacuum lines for this engine?

I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer AWD V8 with 180,000 miles. The check engine light came on and then shortly after that my car started to shake whenever it hits 3rd or 4th gear. I had the code read and it said that it was the EGR Valve. Could this be causing the shaking in the car or do I have some other problem as well??

Egr problems can cause drivabilty issues! Get the code and post it if it's P0401 take the egr off and clean the channel out right thru to to throttle plate.
I use a steel coathanger for this! The have the codes cleared and see what happens.

The other day our car started dogging down as we were going up a hill and then just shut off. Our check gauge light was on and we didnt notice that we were low on oil. Then today the car started doing it again and then shut off. We got some oil and put it in the car and it started up fine. As we were going home it started rattling then smoking really bad and then made this really loud wierd noise and shut off. Can you please tell me what is wrong with our car? We cant even take it a half mile without it shutting off and smoking.

I would have the engine oil pressure checked as you may have damaged a bearing on the crank shaft, a mechanic will pick up on this noise when heard.
