1997 Mercury Mountaineer Brake Lights Do not work.

The gear shift will not work what could it be ?

Hi:
If the shifter doesn't come out of park and the brake lights don't work, they are tied together. The brake light works in conjunction with the park lock out switch which allows the shifter to move from park. It the lights don't work, make sure the fuse is good, and if it is, replace the brake light switch.
