2005 Mercury Montego remote entry system

My remote keyless system sudenly guit working. I changed the batteries in the fobs and reprogramed the system accordingly to the manual. The fobs work sometimes if close to the vehicle but no more than 10 feet away.

With out a scan toool or pin tests done. Choices are faulty RKE transmitter or SJB Smart Junction Box.
Does trunk, horn work ? your range should be @ 33 feet

Yes the trunk works sporatically as well as the horn. Today it seems to be working properly. What should I do if the problem reappears?

Most likely RKE transmitter. Also possible microwave interference does it happen more at one place you park?
