it's a 96, v8. it wouldn't shift out of park, but will let us do the parking break, shift to neutral start method. the thing is, doing that we don't have brake lights or rear lights. no bad fuses.

can you give us an idea of what we need to check next?

There is a combo switch mounted on the brake arm under the dash that is the brake light switch and the release trigger for the shifter lock out. Sounds like yours has gone bad
