This just started yesterday, but when I crank the car it has a roaring noise that goes away when I put it in gear and begin driving. Also, is the fan supposed to come on when you start the car or when the thermostat tells it too? I turn the heat off and there is this weird noise - hissing/spitting/. I have checked the coolant levels - good. Oil and trans fluid is good also. This has me worried. Thank you!

I don't believe you have an electric fan. The fan on the vehicle is actuated by a fan clutch. It is common for them to spin the fan fast at first then slow down after a few seconds. That is most likely what you hear as far as the roaring (wind). As far as the, other noise, if you are running the defroster, the AC runs with it. Again, most times the AC will make the noise you described when it is used.
