1998 Mercury Marquis auto door locks

My door locks do not lock all the time when the transmission is put in gear. Second, when I use the manual door lock switch on the drivers side only, it will not work if the drivers door is opened.

Seems by the symtoms, you may have a broken wire were they pass thru the door, and into the car. Inside the rubber boot...they flex at this point, and can crack.
