Recently my hazard, directional flasher and rear brake lights (except the window light) stopped working. Refering to the manual I checked the fuses and bulbs and all are fine. Also, if I manually flick the turn signal up & down the front blinker lights turn on but they do NOT flash. In my limited searching I've discoverd that my model does NOT have a "flasher" to replace and instead I have some extremely expensive CPU. Is there anything else that could be causing the problem or do you think its this CPU?

On my 98 merc grand marquis the hazards were not working. Replaced the turn signal switch on the steering column. Which solved my problem. Hope this helps

It looks like they replaced the turn signal switch fixed the problem. Here is how the job is done in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

The turn signals don't work neither do the hazards or brake lights (except the middle window brake light works). I have been told it might be lighting control processor. Okay, where is that exactly since none of my books say nothing about it?

Sounds to me like your multi-funtion switch is bad. This is the switch in the column that works the turn signals. The rear brake lights are feed thru this switch, but the upper light is not. Doesnt sound too hard to change. Here are the instructions.

Disable airbag system.
Tilt column to lowest position and remove tilt lever, if equipped.
Remove ignition lock cylinder.
Remove shroud screws, then remove upper and lower shrouds.
Remove two screws attaching multi-function switch to steering column casting. Disengage switch from casting.
Disconnect two electrical connectors.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
Torque retaining screws to 18-26 in lb.
Activate airbag system.
