Electrical problem
1996 Mercury Marquis V8 Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 210000 miles

I recently replaced a fuse that burnt out and ever since the interior light will not go off at all.

I have pressed the switch that you would normally press to make them go off and waited a minute or two and then press it again.

I have looked for a switch on the door but can't find any, maybe they are built into the locking mechanism?

I have checked all other fuses, thinking there may have been one that controlled a timing module of some sort(shrug, I know very little of car electrical systems, or anything else really).

The lights that stay on are the two above the back seat and the dome light. The others stay off since they are switch controlled.

The lights stay on while driving, no door ajar light is on and there is a keyless entry pad on the drivers side door.

Any help is appreciated greatly!

{EDIT} Forgot to say, the lights stay on when I put the fuse in, kind of obvious I suppose, but thought I'd add it anyway. I just taken the fuse out until I can get this resolved, we can still use the car we just have to unlock the doors with a key or from the inside manually.

Did you try turning the knob that turns the interior lights on located by the dimmer, sometimes they are bumped and turned on.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

There isn't a knob to turn the interior lights on, it's a knob that you turn to the left for the Auto Lamp(headlights) and right to turn on just parking or turn on headlights manually. Then to turn on the interior lights you Push that knob in. The only other switches by that one are the Panel Dimmer switch and the Rear Defrost button. (see diagram)

As I said before I have pressed the Interior button(knob) and waited for the lights to go out for over a minute and then pressed it again and waiting once more. Never did they go out.

This is confusing for me, never had a car do this before. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sure I'm up for some DIY. I replaced the number 8, it's a 15 AMP fuse, manual says it's for:
Lighting Control Module
Power Mirrors
Remote Keyless Entry
Clock Memory
Radio Memory
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control(EATC)
Power Door Locks
Power Seats
Power Windows(odd, because I can roll down the windows)

Thanks so much for the help!

Heya, I think we got it narrowed down.

Seems like the Push Button switch for the interior lights has gone out. Getting it replaced on the 2nd, will let ya know.
