1994 Mercury Marquis

The transmission on this car will disengage ( just like putting into neutral) usually at a steady speed and more likely whithin the first 10 miles. The transmission has never been abused and has had regular services. The transmission shifts smoothly and strongly normally. This seems to be much more electrical than mechanical. I have to believe that I am not the Mercury Grand Marquis owner that has experienced this. Any Ideas on what may be causing this?

First, make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. Also, has the check engine light ever come on? This could be a bad shift solonid or vehicle speed sensor (VSS) but I can't be sure without knowing if the check engine light has come on.

Let me know.
