Ok bear with me on this, I have never ran into this before. I bought this Grand Marquis about 2 months ago, drove it for a week motor sounds great. Checked the oil it was full but was very dirty so I changed the oil and filter and every since then the lifters (sounds like to me) are making a terrible noise, it sounds like a Diesel. Now here is the kicker after I changed the oil and filter other than the lifters making noise the oil shows a quart over full so a week later I changed oil and filter again and the lifter noise is louder and still shows a quatr over full, I checked the oil i drained the first time and it was 5 quarts and of course thats how many I put back in both times. So does it seem strange that after I changed the oil for the first time the lifters knock and it shows a quart over full? any Ideas on why this happened and how do I fix the problem. Been told several times lifters are not pumping up, but I dont know. FYI car runs great, no stalls, starts right up, no hesitations or anything. What do you think.

I believe the car has two drain plugs one in front one in rear of oil pan. Make sure to drain oil from both. As far as the noise, do you have good oil pressure?
