Hi there,
This will depend on where the axle failed, if it failed at the spline end in the differential, the broken end will often "mushroom out" and become wedged with in the carrier. You will have to remove the rear wheels, brakes, undo the axle bearing retainer plate, with draw outer broken axle, now I believe that these axles use a "C" clip retainer on the axle in the diff centre remove diff backing plate and remove retainer, the hard bit will be to with draw the inner broken axle if it has failed mid shaft. You will have to remove the other good axle and remove the differential, as it will require cleaning, it will be full of metal fragments from the broken axle. The diff housing will have to be cleaned as well as the oil will be full of metal as well.
I hope that this helps
