I have a 1991 Mercury cougar and the brake line goin to the back is rotted. Is it possible to cut out the rotten part and splice in a new piece using compression fittings or do I have to replace the entire line fron front to back?

Dopn't use a compression union. You can splice if you have a line flaring tool, Get a theadded fitting for both sides of the flare and get the brass coupler.
