My 2001 Cougar has a 2.5 liter V-6 and a 5-speed manual transmission. It runs great at high RPMs, or once you get past initial take off from stops. Also, when you accelerate at speed to pass, it hesitates and bucks, almost as if the engine is choking and trying to catch up. It has a new fuel pump and I just replaced the fuel filter and I have run two bottles of fuel injector cleaner through it. The air filter is almost new. I have to rev it up abnormally high to let the clutch out in first gear to try to avoid the hesitation and bucking on takeoff. Could this not be fuel related, but related to spark timing or air flow sensors?
