Was attempting tp start this job on my 1997 Cougar. It appears that the gas tank prevents one from removing the drive shaft. Is there a way to remove the shaft without moving the gas tank out of the way?

Nope! the fuel tank must be removed to remove the driveshaft. Sorry Crappy design.
