1994 Mercury Cougar dead batt/volt mtr on dash ='s0

new alt, that's been checked, batt is approx 2yr old, didnt they start putting voltage regulators into they alternators?. i once had too replace a v/reg on a 70's mopar. the car will jump/run but volt mtr on dashbrd just pegs 0. thnks

it should read battery volt on dash
if its not the meter or wiring no good check that
start car & hook volts meter to battery and check volts
