always overheating

Engine Cooling problem
1994 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Automatic

My car is always HOT!!! I changed the thermostat radiator cap checked hoses what else can I do?Plus my temperature gauge does not read hot and when it does get hot the transmission begins to slip what is going on?

try checking the fan. if not check the fuse for the fan. you might have a short.
