The speed part of the speedometer still works. The mileage part has stopped working. Also the trip part. Do I need to replace the complete speedometer or just the cable?

Hello and thanks for donating

Does your Cougar have the standard or the electronic instrument cluster?

The speedometer and odometer/trip use the same sensor to work, it is the speed sensor mounted on the transmission. I find it hard to believe that this would be the cause here since your speedo is still working. The odometer/trip is inoperative but leaving the speedometer operative , that would point more towards a wiring issue at the back of the cluster assembly or a faulty cluster assembly itself.
