I have a XR7 with comfort control heater/airconditioner and I get error codes E7 and sometimes E2 on the temp read out.I have had the heater evaluated by the Ford Dealer. The car needs a Heater Case (part Number F3SZ-1985Q-A), but they are no longer stocked, and it would cost $1000 to install if I can find a used one. Is there a way to override the controls or install a manual operation for the heater to work. All the controls work for the air conditioner and flow of air. But I can not get any heat to the car or windows.

How much do they want for just the heater core without installation? $1000 sounds a little stiff. Have you tried the aftermarket like Auto Zone or O'Rielly? A '91 heater core shouldn't be that hard to find. Please advise.

This is not a heater core but a heater case. The dash board must be removed and reinstalled. This is a 8 to 12 hour job. This price is if I have the heater case and is not included in the installation price.

Most of the newer cars nowadays you have to pull the dash to change anything on the heat/ac. Have you tried looking on the internet for your part. Still, $1000 labor is a little high.

I have two used parts dealer waiting for my answer if I want the part. I am not sure I want the part because I will not be able to replace it without special tools (and chance of braking something) and will still have to pay to have it installed.

Thank You
Norman

You shouldn't need more than a basic tool set to change the heater. No "special tools" persay. It's not really a hard job, it just takes a lot of time
