my sons mercury has 160,000 miles it is a 89 mercury cougar with v-8.the digital part of the speedometer and the gas gauge went out we have replaced theinstrument cluster and it still doesn't work what could it be?

i will have to check my book,butyou might check the fuses for the gauges,they are in the fuse box under the dash,i think they are labed cluster panel or something like that.if that dont work get back to me and we will see what we can do.
