1972 Mercury Cougar Alternator Wiring Issue

I'm trying to replace the alternator and I cannot seem to figure out how to reconnect the wiring harness. I think the alternator that I took out (I've already turned in the core) was not the proper part. I now have the right replacement part but cannot seem to figure out how the wire harness should be connected. I took a picture of the harness/connectors and a picture of the back of the alternator. Please advise. My thinking is that the previous owner put in an alternator that wasn't the recommended one and wired it himself so I may need to rewire it but I'm hoping for some expert insight. Thanks for your help. -Isaac

Nope standard Ford wiring. The round one slips over threaded stud ie red one. Then the samller wire goes on by nut to one 6 o'clock. Then the tab comming out of solid piece bolts to stud @2 O'CLOCK

Thanks Docfixit, I'm not sure if I know what the 6 O'Clock and 2 O'Clock are based on the picture. But I know now that I have the right wiring so I'll give it a shot. Thanks again.
