1991 Mercury Capri Runs poorly - quits when gas tank goes b

Engine cut out when gas tank ibelow 1/2 full. Can restart but runs very very bad - just barely get to gas station and fiull it up and it runs ok other than I thought it should be much smoother and have better pick up than it does. No performance very doggie.

Have replaced fuel filter, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Plugs are NGK Irridium the rest is what they said was OEM.

HELP PLEASE!

Check fuel pressure and delivery rate. If not48 to 50 psi at injectors you need pump. Need to drop tank to R&R pump.

Also check what's in the other half of the tank and make sure it's gasoline. Gas will float on water.
