1991 Mercedes Benz S320 148000 miles

1) Had cracked head gasket replaced, car sounded like a diesel when finished.
told to drive it 250 miles and then valves had to be adjusted.
Valves adjusted and still noisey, clicking but not as loud as originally.
Drove the car app 50 miles and it dies on me.

2) towed to repair and was told the cam shaft snapped behind timing gear and had to replace the cam and the gaskets again. Now car is quiet when running as when I originally brought it in for service.

Could the first repair (if not done properly) have caused the second issue/
Could an inproper adjustment have caused the CAM to snap?

Why would cause this to happen.

I appreciate your experitise

Yes, this could be the result of improper installation of the camshaft. When tightening the cam tower bolts during re-installation of the camshaft, you must tighten each bolt only slightly and continually move through the tightening sequence until all bolts are tightened to the proper torque. If you do not, the result is uneven pressure on the camshaft itself and could indeed damage the camshaft.

Hope this was helpful.
