Car is a 1994 c180 mercedes, with 270000 mileage. The car runs to 160km/h and finds it difficult to accelerate any further eventhough max speedometer reading is 260km/h. At that speed also, the rpm is about 6000. It is an automatic transmision and I wonder if this is how they all behave

I live in the USA 160 kmh does't mean a lot. But driving at 6000 RPM for any length of time will get you into a new Mercedes! Red line should be around 5000 RPM? Your tranny may be missing the last upshift!

Hi there,
I agree with Merlin, 160 kph = about 100MPH rev limiter should of kicked in by then, is the temp going up when at speed? Are you driving at 100% throttle? The kick down may be stuck and holding it down a gear, Try throttling up at a moderate rate to say 100 KPM it should be in top gear, check tacho at 100. Will it kick down when you hit throttle? Will it change up again when you back off? A code read will give some clue as to what the transmission is thinking about.
