My car has been running fine since I got it 2 years ago. (Besides new brakes) Today I started the car and let it sit for 2-3 minutes as usual. I drove away and 3 minutes into the trip the check engine light came on and I was no longer able to accelerate. The car seems to not go over 1500 rpms (I hope that is right, my display only shows 10, 20, 30, 40.) it stays in between the 10 and 20. It seems like it is not getting gas. Does it sound like the fuel system?

It sounds like your vehicle may be in "limp home" mode. It is a safety lock out that the Engine Management system controls. It is activated when the vehicle has a condition that may cause damage to the Engine, trans, Emissions systems etc. It basically protects the vehicle by limiting the rpm's , speed, and trans gears. Many components can cause this to happen, some very simple and others more serious. You will need to have this repaired to get out of limp home mode.
