Air Conditioning problem

is it possible that a vent/filter could be clogged in my SLK 230's air conditioning?
when i'm driving on the highway the air con works. (except yesterday when it was 101 degrees here.) when i'm sitting at a light it doesn't.
my car has to be parked under an evergreen tree....and i'm thinking somehow that the needles got sucked in the system?
sorry....i'm car illiterate....hoping someone can point me in the right direction before i have to bring it to the dealer
