1998 C230 Mercedes Benz EC light stays on

I have a 1998 C230 Mrecedes Benz with 178,000 miles. I was sitting in a parking lot abourt 3 weeks ago with the air conditioning running, the air conditioner went off and the EC light came on. My air conditioner has not come on since and the EC (economy light) wiil not go off. Any idea what he problem may be and how to fix it?

I'm not overly familiar with Mercedes, but is the "EC" Engine coolant" perhaps? IF it's running hot it may be affecting the A/C system as to not run any hotter than it has to, a failsafe if you will.
