Engine Cooling problem
1999 Mercedes Benz ML320 6 cyl Automatic 125000 miles

we have the water pump out of the car but cannot remove fan assembly from the old pump how do you do this the four set screws to the pulley came off but the laarge nut on the main shaft will not loosen

1 Fit counterholder (1) on bolts of belt pulley (2), counterhold

NOTE: Belt pulley of coolant pump

2 Unscrew union nut at viscous fan (3)

NOTE:

* Right-hand thread.
* Installation: Use torque wrench with open-end wrench bit.

3 Unbolt fan at viscous clutch

NOTE: Installation: The installation position of the fan is preset through cast-on ribs at fan ring.

4 Install in the reverse order.
First of all thank you so much for your donation.I emailed you a diagram that goes with the instruction's You use a holding tool like they show in the diagram i emailed you and hold the water pump shaft then use a fan clutch wrench to loosen the large nut.

we have the pump out of the motor already. can we put the pump in a vice and then lefty lucy on the nut

If you can hold the water pump shaft in place without damaging something you need you can otherwise you will need the holding tool in the diagram.But when you put the fan clutch back on the new pump your going to have the same problem with holding the new water pump shaft without damaging something you need to reuse.Also say's you have right handed thread's on that so left loosey would be correct.
