1998 Mercedes Benz ML320 fuel filter removal

How do I remove the fuel filter without damaging the plastic fitting that holds the filter.

Strange looking filter anyway it set up with quick disconnect connectors which does require a special tool. Here is a pic of the type of tool you need. You put over the filter and push it into the end of the line and it will open the clip inside the end of the line and you pull it off. Here is the pic.

I fail to mention that the Fuel filter in the ML320 IS the Original filter installed in 1998 when the car was builed. I am the original owner.
Can you tell me if the special TOOL is for the old filter or the New filter (which requires new tubing).

If you by a fuel filter to fit the car it should match the factory filter so the tool will work on the car no matter what. Here is what I find for a filter for you car let me know if yours looks different because it shouldn't. This is a mann filter and say's it is a direct OEM (original equipment) replacement. Pt#W0133-1608502.
