2001 Mercedes Benz C280 fuel gauge flashing

2001 Mercedes Benz C280 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 135000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My low fueld gauge on the dash (gas pump) is flashing with out stopping. It has over a half a tank of gas. I checked the gas cap and its on tight.
please help
