1998 Mercedes Benz C230 fuel guage

With a full tank of gas the guage intermittently reads empty with the yellow light on. Then it will go back to full the next time it's driven. On a half tank it will read either full or empty.

You have a failed fuel level sensor. This will require replacement of the fuel pump assembly.

Don't know why they do this, but its common ours has the same problem

there should have been a recall to correct the problem. Fat chance
