1981 Mercedes Benz 380sl can not shut the driver side door

1981 Mercedes Benz 380sl V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The door stop ( I think that is waht it is called) is broken and the door swung open past center and now I can not get it to shut, any suggestions so I can get it to the mechanic

Hi there,

is it jambing on the guard or do you think it is the door check strap causing the problem, the check strap is the small lever that holds the door open.
