1985 Mercedes Benz 300sd Trunk will not open

1985 Mercedes Benz 300sd Two Wheel Drive Automatic 245000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
When the trunk lock button is depressed it unlocks but will only open a fraction of an inch. Cannot get into trunk to figure out what is obstructing it. Took it to body shop. they could not get it open.

The only other way into the trunk is by taking the back seats out. They probably aren't made to come out easilly,
