what would cause the transmission to work improperly when the trans fluid starts to warm up or get hot?

Hi there,

there can be a number of things that can cause a problem like this, as the transmission heats up you may be getting internal pressure leaks, sticky valves, could be anything, best you get this inspected by a trans specialist before it develops into a more serious issue.
