Engine Mechanical problem
1981 Mercedes Benz 300sd Two Wheel Drive Automatic 212K M miles
I've got a 5 cylinder, 3L turbo diesel (just bought it). It idles like a 440 with a bumpy cam (my nice classy Mercedes rocks back and forth at stop lights; embarrassing).
The noise... it has one particular clatter within the usual diesel clatter. There's a lot of clatter from my injection pump, according to my stethoscope. Is that normal?
The low power is at high RPM; around 1800. It gets there fast but suddenlly the power drops off, sometimes just before a shift.
Turbo lag is greatly exaggerated.
