1981 Mercedes Benz 300sd Automatic

hey, i just got my car from a friend and it needs a new alternator put in. i'd really like to do this myself to learn and to save some cash. i have the tools but no idea where the alternator resides in the engine or how to remove it. also, once removed, i need to know how to put in the new alternator i just purchased. thank you so much for your time!

it will be easier for me to advise you to purchase a manual for your new Mercedes, it will tell you step by step how to remove and install the alternator.
