WHAT MUST I REMOVE IN ORDER TO GET THE OIL PAN TO DROP DOWN FAR ENOUGH TO GET TO THE OIL PUMP

Service and Repair
Notes

Removing and installing oil sump (except 4MATIC)

Preceding work:

Hood raised to vertical position.
Bottom engine compartment panel removed.
Air cleaner removed.
Fan shroud removed.

Disconnect ground cable at battery.
Drain engine oil.
Unbolt front engine mounts (2) from below.
Model 126: Remove engine shock absorber.
Unplug plug connection of oil level sensor (7) at oil sump.
Unplug plug connection of oil pressure switch.
Automatic transmission: Unbolt oil pipes (14,15) at oil sump.
Models 126, 201: Unbolt oil pipe of level control at oil sump (4).
Model 201: Remove torsion bar (17).
Model 201: Unbolt left drag link with steering damper, detach and turn to the rear right.
Insert guard plate at component compartment wall
Raise engine.
Unbolt oil sump at crankcase.
Remove oil sump (4) downward to the front.
Replace gasket of oil sump (3).
Note: Before tightening the oil sump bolts, align oil sump (4) to the rear contact surface on the transmission, allow to rest on surface.

Run engine and check for leaks.
Tightening torques in Nm
Oil sump to crankcase

M6 hexagon bolts 10

M8 hexagon bolts 25

M10 hexagon bolts 40

Oil pipes at oil sump 10
