1988 Mercedes Benz 300e 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My 1988 Mercedes 300 elite will not stay idling. It is also hard starting. What has happened?

First there's NO such thing as an Elite, The E stands for fuel-injected or gas model. Same goes for D = Diesel, T = Turbo. Google Mercedes

Start by looking for vacuum leaks at the intake. Check the cold start valve or the idle valve to see if they are functioning properly.
