1986 Mercedes Benz 300e Oil Pump Location for R & R

I am about to change my very noisy lifters on my 300e, and suspect the oil pump to be malfunctioning. I haven't changed the oil in about 7000 miles and need to do that as well... and, in the interim, have added a number of additives to the oil trying to quiet the lifters. I'd be interested to know if you think my oil filter might be more at fault than the oil pump and possibly clogged.

Hi there,

The filter should be changed regardless, i would do the engine oil service then check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, Benz oil pumps rarely give any problem, i would be thinking the problem is dirty sludgy oil.
