1995 Mercedes Benz 220cdi gas smell in engine oil

just bought car from a used car dealer. changed engine oil & filter. drained out 5+ qt. - should have been 6.5 qt. oil & filter had a strong gas smell. eng. runs normal - quiet, smooth. check eng. light on - before & after oil change. causes? repairs? driving limits? waiting on title in the mail - only drove it home. dealer claims they drove round trip from Lima to Chicago - good gas mileage.

You may possibly have a leaky injector dumping excessive fuel into the crank case, try some injector cleaner and see what happens
