Why does the transmission not shift into over drive?

Your transmission not shifting into overdrive is more than likely being caused by a faulty Gear selector module called a shift gate. Many times when the component begins to fail it will begin to lock you out of gear selections. This module also incorporates the solenoid that is reponsible for the mechanical action that causes the shift.
