1987 190E 2.3 failed the smog test two years ago. Put another after-market cat convertor, and all was well. Two years later it is a "gross poluter." Smog test place suggested 02 sensor checked, but the light is not on. I can't spend much more money on this car. Any suggestions?

Ok first do you have the read out of the HC's and Co's and Nox? If so get me the readings so I can better help also include what it should be so I can see how far off it is. With readings I can see how rich or lean it is running to give you better suggestions as what to check or do to get it to pass.

OK I would do some simple maintenace stuff there. The Co's are not that far out of place only by.20 so with that. If the oil is old change it with the filter and make sure the air filter is clean and put some seafoam in the gas tank and then go back with it well warmed up and smog it and it should pass from what I am reading anyway. Let me know how it goes and have a great day.

Thanks for the help. The other readings being so high do not concern you? Also, do you guys have a shop in Orange County where I might bring my car for work?

Thanks

I have my shop in North Idaho so not me anyway but I did do smog in cali and was a vehicle inpector for the state too funny. Now the other reading are a bit high and I would double check for any vacuum leakes in the intake system too. However basic maintance is a common reason why cars fail but make sure all the vacuum lines are good and not cracked and use water and spray around the intake and such. This is injected right so check for vacuum leaks around the injectors too. Let me know what you find.
