1991 Mercedes Benz 190d Reverse problem

This vehicle runs great in any forward gear. However when in reverse, if I step on the brake, the drive shaft will keep spinning and fighting the brake, essentially trying to drive the vehicle backward disregarding the braking demand. When the brake is released, the vehicle drives backward smoothly until I step on the brake paddle again.

I don't think you have a transmission problem it sounds like you've got a rear brake problem
