1999 Mazda Truck 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 161K miles

I have a 1999 B2500 Mazda pickup with 161,000 miles. The other day the truck started surging slightly at speed (ie. 50-65mph) in 4th and 5th gear. I then noticed that the check gauges light was flashing on the control panel and the fuel gauge had risen to Full. I knew the tank only had 1/4 tank or so, but no one i know can tell me what this means or what problem may be occuring.

Take it to Autozone and get the OBD2 code/s pulled for free from the computer and comeback with the code/s.

I could not get the obd2 codes. The plug in doesn't work(no power) and I have no idea why.
