There's no easiest way but the right way-see below:

Service and Repair

GENERATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING: When the battery cables are connected, touching the vehicle body with generator terminal B will generate sparks. This can cause personal Injury, fire, and damage to the electrical components. Always disconnect the battery before performing the following operation.

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3.Install in the reverse order of removal.

Drive Belt Installation Note
*Install the drive belt and adjust the drive belt deflection or tension.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I have removed the belts, disconnected the electrical leads and removed the upper and lower bolts. The old aleternator is free of its mount but I cannot get it out of the engine compartment from the top or bottom. I tried loosening the AC hoses and gently moving them out of the way but still cannot squeeze it out. Do I have to remove the exhaust pipe?

Can either remove bolts for engine-to-manifold support bracket and remove that bracket, then remove the 4 steering gear mounting bolts so you can move steering gear out of the way, OR pull the CV axle to gain access.

Easiest way to access alternator for replacement is by pulling CV axle, then just disconnect electrical connections, drive belt and alternator mounting bolts.

Was having a screeching noise coming from the alternator when I would rev the engine up and would be worse when I had the lights/defroster/heater on. I have replaced the alternator and belts. I was running fine and then it started to screach again like before. What might be the cause?

Thank you

Hi nationalsscott,

Thank you for the donation.

Recheck the belt tension. Ribbed belts are supposed to be readjusted after running in for a short period of breaking in. If the belt tension is not the cause, then you need to check the crank pulley.

The harmonic balancer which is a rubber damper around the crank pulley could be bad causing the outer pulley to slip around the inner pulley.

On the bottom of the engine near the passanger firewall there are two air conditioning lines blocking your way, unscrew the holder and move the lines out of the way (carefully) and you should be able to remove the alternatior without issue. Just loosen drive belt, then remove mounting bolts and alternator.

Offcourse a chip ! I look at the voltage level for both of this alternator wires, blu/whi and gr/whi in a good operating system and it showed.650mv while the alt output was at 14.0v in my car I read 2.4v in the gr/whi and 0.00 out in my whi/blue.
I will check the wiring to the module in the gr and to the instrument cluster charge warning lite for the whi/blue otherwise I will replace the controler board
