bank 1, System too lean Bank 1?

2002 Mazda Protege5 2.0L WD 158000 miles. The code gave me "Random/multiple Cylinder misfire, Intake Manifold tuning control CKT open bank 1, System too lean Bank 1" can you please help me find the result of this problem. Thank you!

Hi,

The reference to "bank one" is usually used on a v6 or v8 engine. There are two sides to the engine, so they have two banks.

On your vehicle, there is only one bank because it is a 4 cylinder.

Since you have a lean mixture, chances are there is an engine vacuum leak or low fuel pressure. To get you started, here is a link that explains how to check for and repair an engine vacuum leak:

If no leaks are found, I recommend testing the fuel pressure to confirm the pump is producing what the engine needs to run properly. Here is a link that shows in general how it's done.
