2000 Mazda Protege Linkage cable

We are trying to replace the linkage cable to the transmission and cant seem to get access through the fire wall.

need to remove the center console to get access to the gearshift lever cable.

Console has been removed and old cable out. Having problem installing new cable and getting access behind AC controlls through firewall.
