1999 Mazda Protege car wont turn over all the sudden.

So i have a mazda protege and it has been running just fine no problems at all. but this morning it all the sudden it wasn't turning over. when i tried a second time there was no repsonse at all from the engine. what are some of the possibilities of what could be wrong?
