My 98 Protoge slowly overheats on hot days. It takes 45 minutes or so before it starts looking bad but within an hour and 15 minutes it can be very near the redline. If it's below about 75 out I have never noticed a problem.

Of course I'm judging based on the dash gauge, which may not be stellar accuracy.

Mechanic tells me that radiator temp is consistent (whatever that means). He also replaced the thermostat. No good.

Any Ideas?

Hi there,

have the radiator cleaned & flow tested. Check that the cooling fans are working correctly.
