The alarm was turned off many years ago and the alarm button is old and has not been used for years. Yesterday when the ignition was turned on the alarm sounded (very well also). We had the battery replaced and the alarm wire disconnected to the alarm. The mechanic said to keep the ground cable to the battery off the battery post while not driving because the alarm would continue to drain the battery. How can we disconnect the whole alarm and does the silent alarm still drain the battery? I bought this car slightly used and believe that the alarm was added after sale.

If it is an aftermarket alarm, the control box is under the dash, you can 1.) Unplug the connectors, and 2.) Remove the inline fuse from the fuse holder.

Hi L Beck,

Thank you for the donation.

Seems you have only disconnected the siren and not the alarm control.

Being an aftermarket system, it should be easily disconnected. Locate the alarm control module and unplugging or disconnecting the power supply should enable you to disable the system.

If the alarm comes with a reset button, turn ignition to ON and pressing the reset button should turn the alarm off.

There are many varieties of after market alarm system so there are different ways of disarming. Disabling is only one way, disconntcting the main control module should work. If it has disabling functions, some wires might need to be reconnected.
