I just purchased a 1995 Mazda Protege. I had to have the alternator and belt replaced. A few days after that I started to hear a loud squealing noise when I turned on the car, at first we just assume that I needed belt dressing, but that didn't help. What is puzzling to me is that it doesn't happen every time I start the car (but most) and sometimes it's a short squeak, and at other times it can last close to a minute. It's driving me crazy.
The tension on the steering belt is VERY TIGHT, could it be that when the alternator was replaced, that it was put on to tight?
And if that wasn't enough. today when I tapped my breaks to stop or slow down I'm hearing this awful "SHH" sound. I tried pumping my breaks, and it seem to work until I made 2-3 stops and it was back.
Please give me some direction because these problems have to be taking care of but I don't want to get taking :(
